VVD Title Reaction as the Reds sealed their 2024-25 Premier League crown in commanding fashion on Sunday afternoon, thrashing Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield. The victory ensured that Arne Slot’s men could no longer be caught at the table, marking an unforgettable achievement in the club’s history. With the championship now firmly in hand, Liverpool can begin their celebrations, and Virgil van Dijk, the steadfast captain who was also a league champion in 2019-20, is ready to lead the charge when the trophy is lifted on May 25.

For Van Dijk, the journey to this triumph has been one of consistency, resilience, and emotional highs and lows. He’s played every single minute of the Premier League campaign so far this season, embodying the leadership and commitment that has been crucial to Liverpool’s success. Reflecting on the team’s monumental season, he shared his thoughts on the victory, the significance of winning the title, and the emotions surrounding the momentous occasion.

Van Dijk on Liverpool’s Championship Journey:

“This season has been truly remarkable,” Van Dijk said. “We’ve been so consistent, and the title is thoroughly deserved. Today’s reaction after going 1-0 down was fantastic. We stayed calm and turned the game around – it’s a testament to the team’s spirit. And, I’ll tell you, the final minutes today felt like they lasted an eternity! But in the end, we did the job, and now we can all enjoy it. I’m talking about everyone connected to Liverpool, from the players to the fans – this is a time to celebrate!”

When asked if there was extra joy in securing the title this season, especially after the 2020-21 title win was achieved without the fans in attendance due to the pandemic, Van Dijk couldn’t help but feel a sense of added pride.

“Absolutely,” he responded. “Winning the Premier League is never easy – it’s the hardest league in the world, in my opinion. To have the chance to lift it again, especially in front of our supporters, with such a wonderful atmosphere, perfect weather, and against a strong opponent – it’s indescribable. The manager has already pointed out that we’ve now won two titles in just five years, which is an incredible accomplishment. For me, that speaks volumes about the strength of this team.”

Looking Back to January 2024:

As for the challenges and changes the team faced earlier in the season, Van Dijk recalled the uncertainty that surrounded the announcement of Jürgen Klopp’s potential departure in January. Despite the turbulence, Van Dijk had confidence in his teammates, believing they still had the quality to fight for the title.

“In January, we were still in the race for the title. We knew it was going to be tough after last year, but I never lost faith in the team. We had a bit of a dip in form last season, but this year we’ve shown we can be consistent. Replacing someone like Jürgen Klopp is no small feat, and I think the new manager, with his staff, has done an incredible job. Not many people outside the club expected us to be champions, but that’s what football is all about – unexpected moments, and we delivered. We’ve been focused on performing well and winning games, and that’s exactly what we’ve done.”
