Trent Alexander-Arnold Reacts as he Delivers Match-Winning Strike
Trent Alexander-Arnold made his long-awaited return to action on Sunday at the King Power Stadium, stepping off the bench in the second half for the first time since March 11 after a spell on the sidelines due to injury.
With the score still locked at 0-0 in the Premier League clash, Alexander-Arnold pounced on a rebound to score with a powerful left-footed strike, following attempts from Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota that had both rattled the crossbar. The Reds held on to secure a 1-0 victory over Leicester, putting them just three points away from clinching the 2024-25 Premier League title.
After the match, Alexander-Arnold shared his thoughts with Sky Sports. Here’s the full interview:
On whether today was one of his most memorable moments in a Liverpool shirt…
“Absolutely. I’ve had some great memories in this stadium, scored a few goals here before. But being on the brink of winning the title, and coming back from injury for this important game – it means a lot to me. I’ve worked incredibly hard over the past few weeks to get back into shape, and I was thrilled to be involved again. Scoring that goal was massive for me, and I’m just happy to contribute to the team’s success.”
On scoring in a similar style to his goal in the 4-0 victory at Leicester in 2019…
“Yeah, it was quite similar. I’m pretty sure that was my first-ever left-foot goal, so it’s taken a while, but I finally got there! It’s probably the one type of goal I’ve been missing, but I saved it for the perfect moment, especially with the title so close now. One more win, and we’re there. It makes it even more special to score in front of the fans here. This moment means a lot.”
On celebrating with the away supporters after the final whistle…
“Virgil [van Dijk] encouraged me to step forward and really soak in the moment with the fans. Our away supporters are always incredible. They’ve been outstanding this season, backing us from start to finish, pushing us through every match until the final whistle. Their energy is contagious, and it really helped us today. As much as we play for ourselves and our families, we do it for the fans as well – they travel, they spend their hard-earned money, and they deserve to see us give our all on the pitch. With the title so close, and knowing what it means to so many of us, celebrating with them makes it all the more special.”
On his future…
“As I’ve said all season, I’m not going to go into the details about my situation right now. But days like today are what make it all worth it – scoring, winning, and being so close to winning the title. These moments are unforgettable, and I’m grateful to be part of this team, especially during such a thrilling season.”
