Milos Kerkez on Brighton Disappointment – The Goal & A Whole Bunch of ‘Important’ Games Coming Up
You could sense the disappointment radiating off Milos Kerkez following Liverpool’s dismal performance at Brighton & Hove Albion on the Saturday. The Reds hadn’t delivered the goods as they’d have liked, conceding a two goal defeat in the Premier League.
Danny Welbeck netted two for the Seagulls, leaving the Reds to pick up the scraps off the Champions League win over Galatasaray in the midweek. Kerkez did his best to swing the pendulum back in Liverpool’s favour with a goal in the half hour mark but it wasnt enough to see out the game.
“It’s fair to say the lads did have a good day, they got more chances and – yeah you can tell – we just didnt quite click,” Kerkez confessed to Liverpoolfc.com. ” We were supposed to create more, but it just werent our day – it was tough, no doubt.
You can see some of the lads were maybe a bit knackered too. They were the better team and you have to give credit to ’em.
On that super quick turnaround between games, Kerkez made it pretty clear he wasnt having it. “I’m not really into making excuses, we all know where were at in the league and we know we have a job to do. I mean, okay maybe that quick turnaround might of gave us an edge, but its not doing us any favours today – were still gutted that we didnt get the three points”
He levelled the scores with a bit of flair on the half-hour mark – a wonderful move really.
Lewis Dunk thought he was offloading the ball back to Bart Verbruggen but Kerkez was hot on his heels, intercepting the ball and lifting it over the goalkeeper. Clever play.
“The ball goes back to Giorgi and I make a run down the line – I know Dunk likes to hoof it back to the keeper sometimes, so I thought I’d keep on running and see what happens,” the 22-year-old said in retrospect.
“He sends it back & I get my foot on it – but to be honest, when you dont get the win you just cant be bothered about scoring a goal”
The loss for Liverpool was pretty tough to take on the south coast but at least they wont have to play again before the international break soon.
The season is just about to kick back into gear though – and a big one at that. The Reds face Manchester City in an Emirates FA Cup quarter-final next time out – that’ll be on the 7th April. Then its the big league games with PSG and Fulham after that. “FA Cup weve got City coming up & then those two big ones with PSG and Fulham in between – all the games will be really really important for us and we need to come back fit & raring to go.”
The next few weeks are going to be massive for Liverpool so Ill be keeping an eye on them.
