Liverpool FC’s grounds team wins prestigious grounds management award

Liverpool FC’s grounds team has been recognized with a prestigious industry award for its exceptional upkeep of the club’s pitches and training facilities.
The Grounds Management Association Industry Awards, hosted at Anfield, celebrates excellence in pitch maintenance across professional, amateur, and volunteer sectors. The LFC grounds team secured the title of Professional Football Grounds Team (Elite) of the Year, which shows an outstanding turf management skill.
This accolade shows the team’s expertise, commitment, and ability to consistently maintain high standards across five key club locations, including Anfield and St Helens Stadium, spanning a total of 339,500 square meters.
Key Achievements in Pitch Innovation
Among the team’s recent accomplishments is the installation of a hybrid carpet pitch at St Helens, completed just four weeks before the first Barclays Women’s Super League match. Additionally, the Anfield pitch underwent a complete transformation, with the previous surface replaced by a state-of-the-art hybrid pitch in just three weeks, ensuring readiness for the 2023-24 season.
In 2024, Anfield welcomed over 250,000 fans for five spectacular concert nights. Despite the heavy footfall, the grounds team once again showcased its expertise, restoring a flawless hybrid pitch in record time, ensuring the turf was match-ready without compromising quality.
Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation
Through The Red Way, Liverpool FC’s sustainability initiative, the grounds team plays a vital role in advancing eco-friendly practices.
Partnering with Husqvarna, the club has introduced electric robotic lawn mowers, now responsible for maintaining 80% of LFC’s landscaped areas. This cutting-edge approach has led to a 97% reduction in mowing emissions, equivalent to planting 1,309 trees annually.
Beyond pitch maintenance, the team has spearheaded several biodiversity-focused initiatives, including the development of wildflower meadows, orchards, and pollinator-friendly planting, reinforcing LFC’s position as a leader in environmental sustainability.
Recognizing Hard Work and Dedication
Paul Cuttill, Vice President of Stadium Operations at LFC, praised the team’s dedication, stating:
“This award is a true reflection of our incredible grounds team, who work tirelessly across multiple LFC sites to set the benchmark in turf management.
“We are constantly seeking new ways to innovate
