Two decades after the Reds’ unforgettable 2004-05 season, a fierce rivalry is set to be rekindled. That season saw Liverpool’s remarkable Champions League semi-final triumph against José Mourinho’s Chelsea, sealed by a stunning Luis García goal at Anfield. Now, Chelsea FC Legends will return to Anfield for the ninth LFC Foundation Legends Match.

The Liverpool FC Legends will face off against Chelsea FC Legends on Saturday, March 22, with kick-off set for 3 PM, The match, organized in partnership with official training sponsor AXA, promises to be a thrilling spectacle featuring some of the club’s iconic former players.

Legendary goalkeeper David James has been added to the roster, making a return to Anfield after 277 appearances for the Reds. He joins fellow shot-stoppers Sander Westerveld and Jerzy Dudek, providing strong options between the posts.

In defense, Bjorn Tore Kvarme and Gregory Vignal will once again lace up their boots for the occasion, adding experience and resilience to the backline. Meanwhile, former midfield powerhouse Mohamed Sissoko has been enlisted to bolster the Legends’ central ranks.

A special addition to the squad is Igor Bišćan, who played a key role in Liverpool’s unforgettable 2005 UEFA Champions League triumph. His return is particularly fitting, as it marks 20 years since his vital contributions—including a standout performance in the semi-final victory over Chelsea—helped guide the Reds to European glory.

Up front, Florent Sinama Pongolle will make his return to the Legends’ squad for the first time since 2022. The French forward made an impact in his last appearance, scoring in a 2-1 victory over Manchester United Legends, and will be looking to add to his tally in this highly anticipated clash.

With the squad nearly finalized, anticipation is building for what promises to be another exciting **charity match at Anfield, bringing together club legends and supporters for a great cause.

All proceeds from this iconic fixture, presented by AXA, Liverpool’s official training partner, will benefit the LFC Foundation’s incredible work, alongside supporting other charitable initiatives such as Forever Reds, the Chelsea Foundation, and the Chelsea Players’ Trust.

To date, the Legends games at Anfield have raised over £7.5 million, helping the LFC Foundation extend its reach to 127,000 individuals last season alone. Funds from this upcoming match will play a pivotal role in the Foundation’s new strategy, which seeks to double its fundraising efforts and achieve the ambitious goal of supporting 500,000 people every season by 2030.

The money raised will specifically enhance the LFC Foundation’s Health programmes, which offer vital physical and mental well-being support to individuals of all ages.
