Premier League title is a dream – it’s up to us to make it happen – Gakpo
Liverpool is now just a single point away from capturing what Arne Slot hails as “an extraordinary accomplishment”: the prestigious Premier League title.
Slot’s determined squad welcomes Tottenham Hotspur to Anfield, fully aware that a draw or victory on home turf will seal the club’s 20th top-flight crown—an iconic milestone in Liverpool’s illustrious history.
After a gruelling season marked by relentless effort, focus, and consistency, Cody Gakpo and his teammates recognize that just one final obstacle remains—and they are eager to overcome it in front of the passionate Anfield faithful.
“This is the moment we’ve all been grinding for throughout the entire season,” said the forward, donning the No.18 shirt, in a candid pre-match interview with Liverpoolfc.com at the AXA Training Centre.
“Of course, we were disappointed to miss out on the Carabao Cup final, and being eliminated from both the FA Cup and the Champions League was tough. Those were difficult patches where we didn’t reach the levels we know we’re capable of.
“But if we can lift the trophy this weekend, it transforms the campaign into something truly special—a season to remember and a solid foundation to build upon moving forward.”
“When you start football and you learn about the leagues in Europe, I think everybody can agree that the Premier League is one of, if not the best, leagues in Europe and the world.
“To become, hopefully, a Premier League winner is every footballer’s dream at some point in life. That would be an amazing achievement.”
“Liverpool have held a commanding advantage at the top of the division for several months now”.
But as expectancy around their title challenge has grown over time, Slot and the squad have refused to budge from a singular mentality of ‘the job is not done’.
And Gakpo pledged that the thought process remains this weekend.
“That’s the approach of the manager, how he approaches every game,” he said. “That’s how we as a team speak to each other and live together: ‘It’s not done until it’s over.’
“That will be the mindset in this game again, and then hopefully we win it, and then it is over. Let’s go out there and give it our best.”
