Liverpool to Sign Jeremie Frimpong, Fulfills his Childhood Dream

Jeremie Frimpong is over the moon. His dream of playing for Liverpool, something he’s held onto since childhood, has finally become a reality. The Dutch international has completed his move from Bayer Leverkusen, becoming Liverpool’s first signing of the summer.

Frimpong’s path to Anfield hasn’t been a straight line. He started in Manchester City’s youth academy, then moved on to Celtic in Scotland, where he played a key role in a treble-winning season. From there, he impressed in Germany with Leverkusen, establishing himself as one of the most exciting right-sided players in Europe.

But no matter where he played, Liverpool was always at the back of his mind.

As a teenager, the club had shown interest in signing him to their youth setup. Unfortunately, the deal never happened because of transport challenges that made it hard for him to commit to the move. Still, that early connection stuck with him.

In his first interview as a Liverpool player, Frimpong opened up about how much this moment means to him.

“Growing up, every kid wants to play for the top clubs. When Liverpool came calling back then, it felt like the perfect fit,” he said. “But it didn’t work out at the time because of travel issues. So I had to take another route. Looking back now, it all worked out in the end.”

He also reflected on a recent visit to Anfield when his Leverkusen side faced Liverpool in the Champions League last November. That night ended in a heavy 4 to 0 defeat, but the experience left a strong impression on him.

“Anfield was unreal. The atmosphere, the crowd, the energy — it’s something else. It’s probably the best stadium I’ve ever played in,” he said.

Frimpong admitted that facing Liverpool was one of the toughest matches of his career.

“Liverpool are just different. Don’t get me wrong, Leverkusen were a great team, but Liverpool are on another level. Playing against them was hard. Now I get to be part of it. That feels incredible.”

At 24 years old, Frimpong is ready to embrace the next chapter of his career and contribute to a team he’s admired for years. For him, this isn’t just a transfer — it’s the fulfillment of a dream.
