Milos Kerkez Brings Smiles to SEN School in Surprise Visit

Liverpool’s Kerkez recently made an Unannounced Visit to Special Educational Needs (SEN) School

Liverpool left-back Milos Kerkez brought a bit of a smile to the faces of a bunch of local kids recently when he turned up unexpectedly at a SEN school in Woolton as part of his charity work with the LFC Foundation. The partnership between the two organisations has been quietly changing lives across the Liverpool City Region for six years now – and it shows no signs of slowing down.

The Hungarian full-back dropped by an LFC Foundation session at Abbot’s Lea School where the kids were having a go at some activities all funded through the Steve Morgan Foundation . For many of the kids there, it was a once in a lifetime experience, getting to meet one of their heroes in the flesh – and feeling like they were actually a part of something real.

The visit was way more than just a photo opportunity for the press. Kerkez rolled up his sleeves and got stuck in, joining the kids in a sports session and taking the time to really get to know them. One kid, Joe, who’s been following the LFC Foundation programme and making some amazing progress in the process, had a real special moment. He’s come a long way since starting the programme and some of those close to him think the consistent support and encouragement from the LFC Foundation staff has made all the difference.

The real heart of the visit was the programme they have specifically for kids in SEN schools . There are loads of kids out there who miss out on the kind of organised, quality physical activity that other kids take for granted, not because they don’t want to do it but because they can’t. The SEN programme makes those chances available to them – completely free of charge.

Matt Parish, the chief exec of LFC Foundation, has said that the partnership has allowed them to do loads more – and try new things that they probably wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise. He reckons the impact they’ve had has been massive.

The figures they’ve kept track of show just how much of a commitment both organisations have made to this partnership. £5 million committed over 6 years – and that money is making a real difference on the ground.

Liam Eaglestone, from the Steve Morgan Foundation, was pretty chuffed about the work they’re doing. He said it’s a real pleasure seeing the kids light up when they meet their heroes – and he’s clear that the foundation is committed to keeping the partnership going for years to come.
