Liverpool FC Pays Heartfelt Tribute on 36th Anniversary of Hillsborough Tragedy

Share

Today, Liverpool Football Club comes together in solemn remembrance, marking 36 years since the devastating events of the Hillsborough disaster.

On April 15, 1989, during the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, a horrific crowd crush claimed the lives of 97 innocent supporters—lives lost unlawfully, but never forgotten.

Their memory lives on.

This morning, heartfelt tributes were made as coaches and captains from the club’s men’s, women’s, U21, and U18 teams gathered at the Hillsborough Memorial at Anfield. They laid wreaths in remembrance, joined by chief legal officer Jonathan Bamber and club ambassadors Natasha Dowie and Ian Rush.

In honour of those who tragically lost their lives, all men’s, women’s, and Academy squads will observe a minute’s silence before training today. At precisely 3.06pm—the moment the 1989 match was abandoned—the entire Liverpool FC community will pause to reflect in unified silence.

Following the tribute, 97 eco-friendly balloons will be released at Anfield, symbolising each of the men, women, and children whose lives were so cruelly taken.

Flags across all LFC sites are flying at half-mast in a gesture of respect. The Anfield retail store will close at 1pm, with access to museum and stadium tours suspended at the same time.

The club remains unwavering in its promise:
They will never walk alone
